Obituary

Zenith V. Parrish Haddix Thompson, 96, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 1:20 PM Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Wesley Village in Macomb, IL.

Born on March 19, 1921, in Rutledge, MO, Zenith was the daughter of Harry and Veda Arehart Parrish. On April 12, 1943 she married Melvin Haddix, Sr. in Tacoma, WA where he was stationed at Fort Lewis before going overseas in support of WWII. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1972. On June 21, 1975 Zenith married Ernest Thompson in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1985.

After her high school graduation she came with her parents to live on a farm near Blandinsville, IL. She worked at the Lomax Canning Factory, Sheaffer Pen Company and Lightner's Motel in LaHarpe. While her husband was deployed she returned to live with her parents until Melvin was discharged. She then worked at the LaHarpe State Bank and the old Methodist Church for several years. She and Melvin were members of the LaHarpe Methodist Church. Zenith resided in LaHarpe for 73 years, spending the last four at Grand Pairie in Macomb.

Zenith is survived by two sons: Melvin (Rosalie) Haddix, Jr. of Blandinsville, Larry (Linda) Haddix of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren: Joey (Judy) Haddix of Colchester, IL, Jodi (Dana) Nelson of Colchester, Doug Haddix of Willis, VA, Justin Haddix of Quincy, IL, Shawn (Sierra) Haddix of St. Joseph, MO, Bret Haddix of Kansas City, Devin (Liz) Haddix of Kansas City; Eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one brother: Ercell Parrish, and a nephew.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 25, 2017, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Lyren Haney officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service Monday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Fire Department and Grand Prairie Assisted Living.
