Mr. William F. Knobbs, 86, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 7:05PM Friday, September 6, 2013 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.

Bill was born February 11, 1927 in LaHarpe, the son of Kenneth and Anna Alton Knobbs. On June 13, 1948 he married Alberta R. Shoemate in LaHarpe.

He was a graduate of the LaHarpe High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He attended Gem City Business College and Western Illinois University. Bill worked at the Dallas City Lumber Yard and Shaeffer Pen Co., in Ft. Madison . He also work at the LaHarpe Post Office from 1965-1993 and was Postmaster for 14 years. Bill was a member of the LaHarpe United Methodist, LaHarpe Senior Citizens and the LaHarpe American Legion.

Mr. Knobbs is survived by his wife, Alberta, 4 daughters, Betty (Robert) Quigle of Smyrna, TN, Susan (Roger) Keith of Smyrna, TN, Rhonda (Ben) Diewold of Burlington, IA and Julie Larson of Ft. Madison, IA, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Kathleen Dorch of Yorba Linda, CA and Betty Atkinson of New Berlin, IL and 1 brother, Kenneth Knobbs of Millington, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Annabelle Lovell.

Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be held in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:30PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00PM. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe United Methodist Church or the LaHarpe Senior Citizens.
