Wesley Allen "Wes" Long

Wesley Allen Wes Long, 61 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 10:50 a.m. Friday September 14, 2012 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born August 24, 1951 in Burlington, the son of Charles E. and Allison McCauley Long Jr. On August 31, 1997, he married Dixie Ferguson.

Wes was a 1969 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Burlington, and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was Chief Deputy for the Henderson County Sheriffs Department for seven years, served as an Illinois Conservation Officer for ten years, and later worked as an undercover agent for the Montana Fish & Game Department for five years. He had also been employed at General Electric Company in West Burlington for twelve years. Currently, he was employed in the security department at American Ordinance in Middletown. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, St. Johns Catholic Church of Burlington, and was an organ donor.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter- Laurie Long, of Stronghurst, one son - Phillip (Robyn) Long of Stronghurst, and four grandchildren- Dillan (Alyssa Bulen) Vancil, Dustin Vancil, and Carson and Reagen Long. He was preceded in death by his parents.

No funeral service is planned at this time. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday September 19, 2012 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.
