Wayne Harmon Calvert, 78, of Blandinsville, Illinois, passed away at 4:36 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
Wayne was born April 6, 1946 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of L. Martin and Pauline (Ogren) Calvert. On April 25, 1968 he married Peggy Pool in Hamilton, Illinois. She survives.
Wayne grew up on the family farm near Blandinsville and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam in 1967. He loved to farm and farmed with his father and brothers from a young age. Later in life, he farmed along side his son, Drue. He also assisted Hire Township driving a snowplow and truck when needed. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather.
He was a member of the Blandinsville Christian Church and the Henderson County Olde Tymers Association. He had a love for Oliver antique tractors and was well known for his antique tractor collection and knowledge. He enjoyed going to tractor shows and plowing competitions. He was a past Illinois State Plowing Champion and went on to compete at the national level.
Besides his wife, survivors include five children: Darbin (Amber) Calvert of Williamsville, Illinois, Deik (Angie) Calvert of Chicago, Deilee Calvert of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, Drue (Lora) Calvert of Macomb and DeNeisha (Sajeevan) Calvert of Long Beach, California; 10 grandchildren: Caileen, Coldin, Megan, Joshua, Caleb, and Josilyn Calvert, Maxin and Cooper Calvert-Minor, Lillian Gabriel, and Iyla Vyravipillai; one brother: Lee (Marilyn) Calvert of Sciota; two sisters: Nancy (Gary) Sherer of Macomb, and Rev. Beth Nelson of Macomb and one sister-in-law: Nancy Calvert of Blandinsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Teddy Eugene and Karl.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with his sister, Rev. Beth Nelson officiating. Military Rites conducted by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW will follow at the funeral home. No visitation is planned.
