William Andrew "Andy" Olson, 90, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 2:53 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, IA.
He was born August 6, 1927 in Durham Township, near Dallas City, the son of Frank and Rose (Betron) Olson. On June 20, 1948, he married Jean Anderson in Dallas City. She preceded him in death on December 9, 1997.
He was raised on the family farm in Durham Twp, and attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and graduated from Dallas City High School. Andy was a lifelong farmer. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving in the western Pacific on Guam and with the 58 th Battalion Construction Brigade on Okinawa. He was a member of the Dallas City American Legion and the Carthage VFW.
Andy served on the school boards of both the Durham Consolidated District #321, for 4 years, and the Dallas City Unit District for 12 years, 6 as president. He also served as a Dallas City Township Trustee for 24 years. He was a 50 year member and past Master of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are 4 sons, Robert (Mary) Olson Canton, NC, Raymond Olson of Dallas City, Stephen (Hope) Olson of Dallas City and Tom Olson of Fort Madison, IA, 1 daughter, Andrea (Rick) Wibbell of Dallas City, 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 1 daughter, Nancy Olson, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and his parents.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 1, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Larry Menschel officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00PM Thursday at the funeral home where Masonic Rites will be held at5:30 PM followed by visitation with the family until 8:00PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City Veterans' Memorial. Condolences may be left by visiting his obituary at banksandbeals.com.
