W. Eugene "Gene" Adcock

Mr. W. Eugene Gene Adcock, 78, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 10:45 P.M. at his home.

He was born June 23, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Wesley F. and Lola VanPelt Adcock. On October 11, 1953 he married Elsie Hilgren in Abingdon, Illinois.

Mr. Adcock served in the US Navy for 61/2 years during the Korean War. He worked at the Disco, Illinois elevator and retired from Dadants in Dallas City, Illinois. He was a longtime member of the LaHarpe Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Cheryl Sickels of LaHarpe and Diane (Sheldon) Avery of Glenburn, North Dakota, 1 son Rick (Rhonda) Adcock of LaHarpe, 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, 1 step-great-granddaughter, his mother, Lola Heimer of Abingdon and 1 brother, Don (Ola) Adcock of Abingdon.

He was preceded in death by 1 son, Randy Adcock, 1 grandson, Erick Adcock and his father.

Graveside services with Military Rites, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at LaHarpe Cemetery with Evan Sheckler officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday. A memorial has been established.
