W. Richard "Dick" Graning

Mr. W. Richard Dick Graning, 75, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 6:52 AM Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

He was born August 29, 1941 in Fort Madison, IA, the son of Walter G. and Naomi Mohr Graning. On June 10, 1962, he married Barbara L. Smiddy in Dallas City.
Mr. Graning was a 1959 graduate of the Dallas City High School. He worked at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison for 41 years, retiring in 2001. He had served as president of the Dallas City Community School District for 13 years and was a member and Deacon of the First Christian Church in Dallas City.

He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Shelley (Mark) Monteith of Bloomington, IL, Sharon (Craig) Neuweg of Dallas City and Shanna (Ryan) Eddington of Dallas City, 5 grandchildren, Austin and Alesha Monteith, Devin and Nicole Neuweg and Ashley Eddington and 1 sister, Judy (Richard) Scanlan of Carthage, IL.

He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Norma Jean Bowman and his parents.

Services will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the Durham Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned but friends are welcome to call at the funeral home anytime between 3:00 and 7:00PM Monday. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City First Christian Church.
