Virginia E. Shutwell

Virginia Elaine Shutwell, 92, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 2:12 PM Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the LaHarpe - Davier Health Care Center.

Virginia was born March 26, 1920 in LaHarpe, the daughter of Howard and Helen Avery Alton. She married Vernon Shutwell in Middletown, IA on May 11, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2001.

Virginia was a graduate of the Cuba, IL High School. She was a homemaker most of her life, later being employed at the care center in LaHarpe. She loved gardening, her loving family and her many loving friends. She was a member of the LaHarpe Union Church.

She is survived by 1 son, Jerry (Peggy) Shutwell of Biggsville, IL, 2 daughters, Sharon (Dick) White of Tucson, AZ and Mary Beth Shutwell of Las Vegas, NV, 6 grandchildren, Milissa Wise, Stacey Bucchianeri, Chad Shutwell, Michelle Dunn, Jennifer Thompson and Nicolas Shutwell, 10 great - grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 1 brother, Howard Craig Alton of Lake Tapps, Washington, 1 sister, Patsy Russell of Washington, IL and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, brother, husband, 1 son and 1 granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the LaHarpe Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Goettche officiating. There will be no formal family visitation but friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 1st at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church.
