Vera Ruth White, age 91 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday September 23, 2010 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born April 23 1919 near Stronghurst, the daughter of Charles J. and Lela M. Wood Jacobs. On August 7, 1942, she married J.E. Tag White in Ringold, Georgia. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1986.

Vera was a lifelong resident of the Stronghurst community. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Jacobs Hardware in Stronghurst for many years. She also was a home health care provider and babysitter for several families in Stronghurst for several years. She was the bookkeeper for the Roths Old Auction Barn, and made pies for the Tuesday night auctions. For many years, she was the author of Veras Ramblings, a weekly article appearing in the Henderson County Quill newspaper. She was an Activity Aide at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, and was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son- Charles White of East Peoria, IL., four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son - Robert James White and one grandson- James Earl White.

The funeral for Mrs White will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday September 27, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will be in the Olena Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst United Church and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab.
