Dorothy F. Veech

Dorothy Florence Veech age 96 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday August 10, 2011 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born September 9, 1914, the daughter of Roy and Emma Johnson Rankin. On June 26, 1940, she married Kenneth F. Veech in Raritan, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1965.

Dorothy was a graduate of Media High School. She received nurses training from Cottage Hospital Nursing Program in Galesburg. She was employed for over 30 years as a bookkeeper for the Raritan State Bank in Raritan, IL.

Dorothy was a volunteer for the LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville for many years, and was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church, where she was actively involved in teaching and other church programs.

Survivors include one daughter - Carole (Bob) Dillon of Stronghurst, three granddaughters- Lisa (Jon) Corzatt of Media, IL., Shelley (Mark) Graves of Lake St. Louis, MO., Shannon (Chad) Watson of Ankeny, IA., six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers- George and John Rankin and three sisters- Mary Cavins, Eleanor Green and Marguerite Marshall.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday August 13, 2011 in the Stronghurst Christian Church. The funeral for Mrs Veech will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Stronghurst Christian Church with Rev. Steve Minkler officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Stronghurst Christian Church, Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, or Hospice Compassus of Galesburg, IL. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is in charge of arrangements.
