Roy Thorell, age 80 of Stronghurst, Illinois, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday August 12, 2009 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born April 26, 1929 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Vernon and Lura Lovitt Thorell.

Mr. Thorell was a graduate of Terre Haute, Illinois High School and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had lived in Burnside, Adrian and most recently, Terre Haute, where he farmed and was a seed corn dealer. He retired from farming in1995 and moved to Stronghurst. He was a member of Parkview Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Galesburg, Illinois.

Survivors include one sister - Fern Stout of Glen Carbon, IL., three nieces - Jolynn (Dave) Gregor of Edwadrsville, IL., Joan (Scott) Smith of Troy, MO., Jane Stout of Wilmington, OH., one grandniece, three grandnephews, and two great grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law - Vernon Stout, and one nephew - Stephen Stout.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday August 16, 2009 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Banks & Beals. A memorial fund has been established for Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.
