She was born in Emerson, Iowa on September 1, 1914, the daughter of Arthur and Nettie (Wolfe) White. Lucile had three brothers and one sister, all of whom predeceased her. She attended school in Emerson, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1932. She attended Red Oak College and taught school for one year before marrying Marion L. Evans.

They moved to Stronghurst to the farm that had been in the Evans family for several generations and was built shortly after the Civil War. There, as a young bride, Lucile raised chickens and sold the eggs. Her husband, Marion, passed away in a tragic accident in 1960. Lucile continued to live at the farm until 1965 when she married James Swanson, a banker from St. Louis. Lucile then moved to St. Louis to be with Jim and his family. Upon his retirement in 1980 they moved back to the farm. They had an active social life and traveled extensively with friends from Stronghurst.

A few years after they left the farm for Mary Street in Stronghurst, they moved to the St. Andrews Senior Living Facility in Mahtomedi, MN to be near Bill Swanson and his family. Jim passed away in December of 2005.

Lucile was able to enjoy her 97th birthday with family before passing away peacefully in her sleep on September 20th. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include one son- Volney (Marilyn) Evans of Burlington, Iowa, one step-son, William (Catherine) Swanson of White Bear Lake, MN., one step-daughter, Christine (Curtis) FitzGerald of Irving, TX., twelve grandchildren - Steven (Barbara) Evans, Jennifer(Bill) Jones, Jane (Scott) Fox, Mike (Peg) Evans, John Evans, Sara Evans, Beth Willers, Eddie Evans, Meredith (Dan) Deranek, Ryan (Sherri) Swanson, James (Jennifer) FitzGerald, and Matthew FitzGerald, sixteen great grandchildren- Matthew, Ryan and Jourdan Evans, Daniel and Mary Jones, Derrick Fox, Sean and Nicole Evans, Parker Evans, Jacqueline Evans, Claire FitzGerald, Kellen and Kayla Swanson, Noah, Kendall and Gavin Deranek. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son - Jack Evans, three brothers and one sister.

The funeral service for Mrs. Swanson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 19, 2011 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery near Stronghurst. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.
