Steven Lee Shipman, 57, of Basco, Illinois, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Steve was born August 19, 1966 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Henry and Sonja (Maynard) Shipman. On August 8, 2008 he married Mary Manley in Plymouth, Illinois. She survives.
Steve was a 1984 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school he worked for few years at the Nauvoo Blue Cheese Factory, Nauvoo, Illinois. He then worked for Garylord Construction in Fort Madison for 16 years. He was currently employed as a mechanic at Forklifts of Quincy, Illinois.
In his younger years, he enjoyed stockcar racing in the #88 car at Devils Bowl Speedway, near Ft. Green, Illinois and Lee County Speedway, Donnellson, Iowa. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending a lot of his time gardening, hunting, fishing, and taking fishing trips with his friends and family.
Besides his wife, survivors include his mother: Sonja Shipman of Dallas City; two children: Amanda McCarthy of Augusta and Steve (Jennifer) Shipman of Viola, Illinois; two step-children: Stephanie (Heather) Roberts-Wrenn of Ft. Campbell, Tennessee and John Eshom of Basco; eight grandchildren: Cody, Emilee, Ambrose, Emelia, Adam, Colby, Fabian and Izlonna; one great-grandchild: Ayden; one sister: Rhonda (Tony) Francis of Clarksville, Missouri; his father-in-law: John Manley of Basco; one brother-in-law: Robert (Linda) Manley of Basco; Lois (Dan) Kissinger of Kenai, Alaska and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother: Rodney Shipman and his mother-in-law: Dorothy Manley.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service for Steve will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Banks & Beals in Dallas City, with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial will follow in Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City.
