Mr. Stephen M. Lieurance, 83, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 6:33 AM Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington, IA.

He was born on September 4, 1929 in Maquon, IL, the son of Morris and Marie Melvin Lieurance. On January 29, 1955 he married Shirley Poulter in Carthage, IL.

Steve worked for the Ohio River Company for two years prior to joining the U.S. Navy in 1948. He served in the Navy from 1948 to 1952. During his service he was a deep sea diver and also a member of the U.S. Navy boxing team. After his time in the service he worked as a trade carpenter until 1966. He then went to work at Western Illinois University as a maintenance carpenter until his retirement in July 1982. Mr. Lieurance also built several successful businesses in Dallas City, including: The Tastee Corner, Steves Cork and Bottle Liquor Store, Steves Waterfront Tavern, and Antique and Used Furniture Store. In November 1982 he went on to auctioneer school and ran a successful auction business for 15 years.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #0297 in Dallas City, and the VFW Post 5117 in Carthage, IL. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited; performing many charitable auctions for them. He enjoyed hunting and fishing along with raising horses and spending time on his farm with his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Stephen E. Lieurance of Opdyke, IL, three daughters, Stephanie M. (Don) Denney of Burlington, IA, Stacey R. (Jim) Howard of Highland, IL, and Shannon R. (David) Beeler of Burlington, IA, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, one sister Lois Bull of Canton, IL and one brother Ernest Lieurance of Dallas City, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lieurance was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with David Yonker officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Friday, August 30, 2013 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established for the Great River Hospice or the Alzheimers Association.
