Shirley Marie Gullberg

Shirley Marie (Reitman) Gullberg, 86, of rural Stronghurst, IL passed away at home on March 13, 2013. She was born on August 23, 1926 in Mercer County, Illinois to William I. Reitman and Anna V. (Gaylor) Reitman.

She spent her early years in the Little York, IL area. Her married life was spent on a farm near Stronghurst and in later life as a bookkeeper for the farm and a manufacturing business. Shirley loved living on the farm and helping to raise her grandchildren, Meagan, Karl, Taryn, and Ross. Shirley was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, IL. She was an active volunteer in the Red Cross and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Shirley loved to travel and sharing home-cooked meals with family and friends. A special joy in her life was her great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her three sons, William K. (Christine) Gullberg of Kirkwood, IL, Kim R. (Sherry) Gullberg of Stronghurst, and Jonathan A. Gullberg of Media, IL; her brothers William (Margaret) of Monmouth, Robert (Virginia) of Arkansas, and a sister-in-law Jean of Libertyville, IL, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, her step-mother Fara Reitman, and her brother Jack.

Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Dan Ashton officiating. Interment will be in the Keithsburg, IL Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Henderson County Food Pantry, and the Small World Childrens Pre-School Center in Stronghurst.
