Obituary

Shirley A. Gracey, 86, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois surrounded by family.
She was born May 22, 1935 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa to Greg and Monica (Heim) Livingston. She lived with her beloved grandparents, Carl and Lucille Heim, until she was eleven. She then moved with her mother to Dallas City where she finished her education and graduated from Dallas City High School in 1953.


On December 9, 1954 she married Had Gracey in Carthage, Illinois. They were married 45 years until his death in 1999.


Surviving are her son, Had (Kathy) Gracey III, her daughter, Laurey (John) Wibbell, all of Dallas City, four grandsons, Daniel Gracey of Hamilton, Illinois, John (Tiffany) Wibbell of Dallas City, Jerred (Lindsey) Gracey of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and J. Wibbell of Dallas City, eight great-grandchildren, Natalie, Isabella, Madilynn, Gracie, Addison, Ellie, Oliver and Joey, close family friend, Ruth Higgins of Dallas City and very dear friend, Dave Smith of Carthage, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and step-father, grandparents and one infant sister.


Shirley and her husband owned and operated Gracey Oil Company in Dallas City for 37 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City, a church trustee for a time and a member of the church's Altar & Rosary Society where she served as president for several years. She helped with many church and community functions over the years. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking and entertaining her friends and family. However her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Some of her fondest memories were of her times spent with her 4 grandsons and watching and spending time with her 8 great-grandchildren.


Friends may call after 2:00p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:00p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. A memorial fund has been established for the HUGS of Hancock County or the Veterans Memorial Site in Dallas City.
