Sandra Sue "Sandy" Cox, 82, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Illinois.
Sandra was born in Monmouth, Illinois on October 3, 1942 the youngest daughter of Harry and Florence (Goff) Alecock. Sandra had four brothers and eight sisters. She married Cecil Cox on September 9, 1962 in Rozetta, Illinois.
She was a graduate of Biggsville High School. She began her working career in Chicago, Illinois as a Secretary for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Forrest-Atwood Paper Company. When the family relocated to rural LaHarpe in the early 1970's she was a Secretary for Stockland F.S. in Stronghurst. She went on to have a fulfilling career as a Weight Watcher's Lecturer where she made many friends and lifetime acquaintances. She was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed sharing her bountiful harvests with family and friends. Each spring she could be spotted in the timber in her special mushroom patches picking mushrooms. She loved sharing them with family and friends. Sandra was a member of the Terre Haute Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Cox of rural LaHarpe, son Mark (Jamie) Cox of Gays, Illinois, granddaughters, Audrey(Jeff) Carls of Arenzville, Illinois and Lauren Cox of Chicago, great-grandson, Jack Taylor Carls of Arenzville, sisters, Betty Brown of Monmouth and Maida Johnson of Biggsville as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and six sisters.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 - 5:00p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A private family funeral will be held Monday with burial in the Terre Haute Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
