Mrs. Sandra Rose Dowell, 72, of Niota, IL passed away at 6:06 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.

She was born on August 12, 1944 in LaHarpe, IL the daughter of Arthur Lee and Ruth Lucille Freeland Olson. On February 9, 1966 she married Robert L. Dowell in Ursa, IL. He survives.
Sandra was a 1962 graduate of the Dallas City High School. She worked for the Lomax Canning Factory, Lomax, IL, Conifers, Burlington, IA and at Methode, Carthage, IL for 13 years, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. Mrs. Dowell was a lifetime member and past secretary of the Lomax Saddle Club. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and horses but especially enjoyed time spent with her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,

Survivors include, her husband, Robert, two daughters, Kathy (Patrick) Quigley of Media, IL and Ruth Ann (Jeff) Schiedel of LaHarpe, two sons, Stephen (Wendy) Dowell of LaHarpe and Robert Lee Dowell of Niota, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Frank Olson of Dallas City, IL and one sister, Mary Sue Stanbary of Dallas City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter in infancy, Tammy Rose Olson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Larry VanGundy officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
