Ruth E. "Tommye" Corry
Ruth Edna Tommye (Cox) Corry, 90, formerly of LaHarpe, passed away at 6:10 am Friday, May 1, 2015, at Wesley Village in Macomb . She was born March 7, 1925, in Fairfield , Illinois , the third daughter of Charles and Martha (Barnhouse) Cox.
Mrs. Corry graduated from Fairfield High School in 1943. She married Donald Lee Corry on August 10, 1944, in Williamsburg , Virginia . During World War II, she worked briefly at an airplane factory in California to support the war effort. She and Don moved to LaHarpe in the early 1950s. She worked for several years as the crossing guard for LaHarpe Community Unit School District , and had fond memories of the children she helped every day. She was a member of LaHarpe United Methodist Church , where she served faithfully, until she and Mr. Corry moved to Macomb in 2008. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, taking drives, (especially in the fall), reading, playing all kinds of games, sewing, and having coffee parties with the girls. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by two sons Pat (Barb) Corry of Belvidere, IL, and Jim (Barb) Corry of Abingdon, IL; three daughters Sue (John) Atteberry of Decatur, IL, Donna (Howard) Parker of Chesapeake, VA, and Beth (Brad) Brinkerhoff of Sherman, IL; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, her two sisters, a niece, and two nephews.
Ruths family would like to thank the entire staff at Wesley Village , who cared for her and Don with love and respect for the past several years.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Banks& Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Mr. Robert Tillman officiating. Burial will be held in the LaHarpe Cemetery . Friends may call between 2:00-3:00 p.m. Tuesday until time of services. Memorial gifts may be made to either LaHarpe United Methodist Church or Wesley Village .
