Obituary

Russell A. Wagy, 88, of Macomb, IL, formerly of Blandinsville, IL, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Unity Point Health - Methodist, Peoria, IL.

Russell was born October 21, 1929 in Richfield, IL to Charles Denton and Idella Mae (Ryan) Wagy. He was joined in marriage to Mardell Hofmeister on June 7, 1953.

Russell was a carpenter and owned his own construction business in Blandinsville for 50 years prior to moving to Macomb in 2009. Mr. Wagy was proud of his military service, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947-1950. He served in Newfoundland and Bermuda. In 1950 he was called back to active duty by the U.S. Army Reserves and served one year in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in October of 1951.

Mr. Wagy was a member of the Macomb American Legion, Macomb VFW, Blandinsville-LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Mohammed Shrine and the Blandinsville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mardell, children, Kelly L. (Ed) Kane of Media, IL and R. Marc (Peggy) Wagy of DeWitt, VA, six grandchildren, Lindsey (Grant) Curtis, Kourtney (Ryan) McClure, Matt (Tamara) Kane, Luke Kane, Joshua (Spenser) Wagy and Andrew Wagy, three great-grandchildren, Kane Curtis and Levi and Macy McClure, one brother, Robert (Peggy) Wagy of Wytheville, VA, one sister, Marlene Miles of Galesburg, IL, sisters-in-law, Lois Wagy of Oquawka, IL, and Rosalie Wagy of Avon and one brother-in-law, Jerry Riggs of Heyworth, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ronald and Keith Wagy and two sisters, Joan Fitzgibbon and Darla Riggs.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Lyren Haney officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville. Masonic Rites will be held at 5:30 Thursday, March 8 at Banks & Beals followed by visitation with the family from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be a lunch and celebration of life with the family following burial at the Blandinsville United Methodist Church.
