Obituary

Mr. Roy L. Kershner, 80, of Bushnell, IL passed away at 10:15PM on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Heartland Health Care, Macomb, IL.

Roy was born on August 11, 1933 in Burlingame, KS, the son of Jule L. and Leona E. Smith Kershner. On April 4, 1957 he married Bonnie S. Poulter.

Mr. Kershner was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, 1953-1973. Following his military career, he worked at the Western Illinois University Physical Plant for 21 years, retiring in 1995. Roy also raised Tennessee Walking Horses and enjoyed going on trail rides. He was a member of the Macomb V.F.W., Macomb American Legion and the Oquawka Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include, his wife, Bonnie, two sons, Kevin J. Kershner of Diamondville, WY and Sheldon R. Kershner of Lees Summit, MO, one daughter, Renea E. Kershner of Ft. Worth, TX, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, Arthur Kershner of Burlington, IA and Paul Kershner of Lomax, IL and one sister, Kellie Mumme of Mansfield, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Bunch.

Graveside services with Military Rites and Masonic Rites will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Crane Cemetery, near Lomax, IL with Pastor John Keck officiating. There will be no formal family visitation, but friends may call on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe from 3:00 until 8:00PM. A memorial fund has been established for MDH Hospice and McDonough District Hospital.
