Obituary

Ronnie Lee Johnson, age 79 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born July 15, 1938 in Burlington, the son of Carl Ludwig and Ida Ruth Sandy Johnson. On October 27, 1957, he married Mary Ann Sanderson in Biggsville, Illinois. They later divorced. On November 23, 1986, he married LuAnna Tapscott in Monmouth, Illinois. They later divorced.

Mr. Johnson farmed and raised livestock, with his father and brother, near Stronghurst, and also was a self employed carpenter. He worked in maintenance at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst and later Carrington Pointe Apartments in Burlington. He also worked for the Henderson County Highway Department for several years.

Ronnie was a graduate of Stronghurst High School and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, until he was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing pool, bowling, raising horses, and tinkering in his shop. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially, his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his dogs, Harley, Squeak, and Tabs, and Eggs the cat.

Survivors include four daughters, Kristin Johnson of Burlington, IA, Nichol (Scott Ludington) Johnson of Stronghurst, Maygen (Tyler) Crow of Oakville, IA, Kayla (Jorge Osornio) Johnson of Stronghurst, one son, Todd Erickson of Dallas City, IL, eight grandchildren, Adam Zemanek, Aaron McIntosh, Kyle McIntosh, MacKenzy Ludington, Kaydence Reynolds, Paietyn Ludington, Draysin Crow, and Tateym Ludington, one brother, Leon (Carol) Johnson of Olena, IL, his former wives, Mary Ann Knoke of Burlington, IA, and LuAnna Mynatt of Carman, IL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a good friend, Frank "Ike" Long.

The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday December 7, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Stronghurst with Rev. Kurt Carlsen and Rev. Terry Muller officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, also at the Bethel Lutheran Church.
