Roeene H. Miller, 97, of West Burlington, Iowa , formerly of Dallas City, Illinois, passed Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 2:04 P.M. at the Blair House Nursing Home in Burlington.

She was born on November 11, 1913 in Dallas City, Illinois, the daughter of Dudley and Fannie Hull Butler, the youngest of 8 children. On March 27, 1932 she married Robert Carothers. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1959. On May 28, 1970 she married Harold W. Biz Miller. He died on May 4, 1981.

In her early years she worked for her fathers newspaper, The Dallas City Review, as a typesetter. She then worked many years as a waitress at Flora Thums in Niota, the Holiday Inn in Burlington, and the Suburban Supper Club in West Burlington where she was known as Hank. She later worked as a greeter at K-Mart.

Survivors include 2 children, her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and George Dues of West Burlington and daughter Barbara Prescott of Burlington, her son-in-law, Dennis Sly of Lomax, Illinois, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, her daughter, Kay Sly, 1 grandson Todd Sly, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Per her request, no visitation or services are planned. Following cremation a private family burial will be held. A memorial has been established for the Mental Health Dept. at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Contributions may be mailed to Banks & Beals Funeral Home, PO Box 503, LaHarpe, IL 61450.
