Mr. Roby Jack May, 91, of Dallas city, Illinois passed away at 10:47 PM Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

He was born on August 5, 1920, in Humphreys, Missouri, the son of James Delbert and Geneva Hamilton May. On May 5, 1945 he married Mary Virginia Evans in Galt, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2007.

Mr. May graduated from Humphreys, MO High school in 1937 and attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO from 1937 - 1939. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1945 - 1946. He returned to Missouri where he farmed and operated a pool hall in Osgood, MO. In 1955 they moved to Niota, Illinois where he farmed until 1963, when they moved to Dallas City and began working for General Electric. He retired after 17 years in 1980.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Sherry (Carl) Gittings of Branson, MO and Lois (Larry) Douglas of Dallas City, IL, 2 sons, Randy (Ellen) May of Lomax, IL and David (Terri) May of Chillicothe, MO, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Luella (Ed) Spitzer of Naples, FL and 1 brother, Bob (Donna) May of Trenton, MO.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 1 sister, Ruby Lee and 3 brothers, Judge, Hudson and Norman May.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2011 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Peggy Stott officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center or a charity of the donors choice.
