Richard F. Hawley, 82, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 2:55am Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020 at Oaklane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, IL. He was born August 8, 1937 in Keokuk, Iowa to Frank & Alvernia (Sherrill) Hawley. On April 12, 1969, Richard married Doris (Pence) Hawley. They had one child, Charles R. Hawley, together in 1971.
Richard joined the Army National Guard in 1955. In 1958, he enlisted in the Army until 1963. He worked for Churchill Trucking for over 37 years, retiring in December of 1993. He was also a member of the Lomax Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Richard enjoyed NASCAR, watching Dr. Pol, and mowing on his John Deere tractors. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Lomax; his son Charles (Keri) Hawley of Lomax; two daughters, Joni Greenslaugh (Shaun Moeller) and Tracy (Bruce) Billings, both of Keokuk; grandchildren: Alexis Hawley of San Marcos, TX, Cara Hawley of West Burlington, Todd Hawley of Media, IL, Michael (Jessica) Greenslaugh, Heather (Josh) Rose, Nick (Sara) Billings, all of Keokuk, IA, BJ Billings of Burlington and Gabbi Billings, of St. Joseph, MO; great grandchildren: Lynleigh, Tyson, Ryan, Hannah, Lucas, Landon, Adrianne, Oliver, Hudson, and Able; one sister, Judy (Ramo) Stott of Keokuk, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Patty and Dorothy, and one son, Todd Hawley.
There will be a Celebration of Richard's Life from 1:00pm until 3:00pm Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, IL where the family will be present. Military rites will be given at 3:00pm. Per Richard's wishes, he will be cremated and buried at Stronghurst Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the Lomax Volunteer Fire Department.
