Dorothea Elizabeth Rehling

Dorothea Elizabeth Rehling, age 94 of Abingdon, Illinois, formerly of Stronghurst, died at 1:02 p.m. Saturday September 11, 2010 in the Abingdon Care Center. She was born August 30, 1916 in Mount Hamil, Iowa, the daughter of Riley and Florence Magerkurth Glendening. On May 9, 1937, she married Frederick Rehling. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1965.

Mrs. Rehling was a longtime resident of Stronghurst. She had been employed at U.S. Borax Co. in Burlington, Stronghurst schools cafeteria, and the former Fiedler Funeral Home in Stronghurst. She was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter - Janet (Chris) Richardson of Fort Mill, SC., one son - Jerry Rehling of Abingdon, IL., six grandchildren- Barry and Beau Rehling, Kelly Batson, Joseph and Jonathan Richardson, and Carrie Baden, six great grandchildren- Caleb and Karly Batson, Madelyn and Melody Richardson, Kaitlyn and Jackson Baden, and three sisters- Juanita (Clarence) Denadel of Pella, IA., and Arlene Rosetti and Shirley Wilkins, both of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters- June Barnes, Marguerite Hoambrecker, Betty Bowlyou, Bobbie Williams, and Lucille Riceman, and two brothers- Bob and Howard Glendening.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Carman Cemetery, Carman, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst Christian Church.
