Mr. Raymond Hugh Pence, 81, of rural Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 7:15 PM Sunday, July 12, 2015 at The Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Hugh was born on September 13, 1933 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Raymond F. and Jeanette Byers Pence. On July 19, 1963 he married Diane Lee Davis in Burlington, Iowa.

Hugh farmed near Lomax for a majority of his life. He was a graduate of the former Dallas City High School and served in the United States Navy. Throughout his life, He was very active in Lomax and the surrounding communities; serving on the Lomax Township Board, Henderson County Board, Dallas City School Board, and the Henderson County Election Board. Hugh was also a sponsor and avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a passionate hunter, fisherman, and farmer. He was a member of the Lomax Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Diane, four children, Jennifer (Darrell) Reynolds of Macomb, IL, Michael (Carla) Pence of Lomax, Patty Butler of Carman, IL and Pam (Ron) Johnson of Burlington, three step-children, Wade (Carol) Breuer of Danville, IA, Sally (Kevin) Six of Dallas City, IL, Terri Booze of Portland, OR, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one step-daughter, Peggy Meyers, and one brother, Orville Pence.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 17, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, IL with Kendall Hetrick Officiating. Burial will follow in Crane Cemetery, Rural Lomax. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established.
