Charles Robert Olson

Charles Robert Olson, age 73 of Macomb, Illinois died at 11:28 P.M. Saturday August 2, 2008 in the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb. He was born June 21, 1935 the son of Glen and Leola Gaumer Olson. On February 15, 1958, he married Betty Rodeffer in Carthage, Illinois. They later divorced.

Mr. Olson was a graduate of Blandinsville High School and served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He then farmed, worked as a carpenter, and owned and operated a small engine repair shop in LaHarpe for several years. He enjoyed flea markets, collected model trucks, cars and tractors, and was active in micro mini tractor pulls. He was a member of the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his former wife - Betty Olson, three daughters - Becky (Tim) Shields of Blandinsville, IL., Pam Sullivan of Hamilton, IL., Jennifer Olson of Carthage, IL., six grandchildren - Caleb Carpenter, Tucker Shields, Carmen Stevens, and Michael, Paige and Grace Sullivan, five great grandchildren - Joseph, Taylor, and Jack Carpenter, Emma and Jackson Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday August 8, 2008, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Robert Tillman officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
