Norma J. Teesdale, 87, of rural Niota, IL, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.

She was born on June 12, 1929 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Alfred Elmer and Bessie E. Zahner Duhs. On November 29, 1947 she married Thomas E. Tessdale, Sr. in Peoria. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1994.

Norma worked as a Nurses Aid at the Memorial Hospital and later assisted Dr. Bernstein at his family practice, both located in Carthage. She and her husband owned and operated Green Hat Book Store at their home. Mrs. Teesdale enjoyed reading, gardening, farming and raising cattle.

Survivors include, one daughter, Cathy (Richard) Smith of Omaha, NE, six grandchildren, Aaron ( Jodi) Smith of Jasper, IN, John (Ruth) Teesdale of Riverside, IA, Matthew (Beth) Teesdale of Niota, IL, Andrew Teesdale of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jacob (Meghan) Teesdale of Denver, CO and Kate (Joe) Castro of Cedar Rapids, IA. Six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Delaney and Carter Smith all of Jasper, IN, Henry Teesdale of Riverside, IA, Annabella Teesdale of Cedar Rapids, IA, Abraham Teesdale of Denver, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Thomas Teesdale, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Myers Cemetery, near Niota with Ronald Leonard officiating. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
