A graveside service for Norma & David Logan will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois with Pastor Maxine Dennison officiating.

Norma Carol Harris Logan

March 23, 1933 – November 30, 2020

Norma was the second child born to Minnie and Leland Harris on March 23, 1933.  She passed away at St Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in Shreveport, LA on November 30, 2020.    She married her high school sweetheart, David A Logan, in the Lomax Christian Church on April 20, 1952.  Starting in the small communities of Lomax and Dallas City, Illinois, they raised a family and traveled the world, making many memories and friends during their 65 years of marriage.

She loved spending time reading regional cookbooks, knitting and crocheting.  Her favorite gift for her babies was a homemade "Grandma's Blanket".   She adored Christmas and had a child-like enthusiasm for handmade ornaments and homemade gifts. For those of you wondering if letters and cards are appreciated in our digital world, we can certainly tell you that she cherished every single one she received.  We have a beautiful family history shown to us through all of your letters, cards and pictures.  That family history was so very important to her, and she stressed that we should always remember fondly the ones who came before us.

Norma and Dave volunteered many hours with the Minden St Jude's fundraisers.  Dad may have built the first Minden playhouse but it was Mom working in the background painting and wallpapering the life-size dollhouse treasure.  She offered several of her handmade porcelain dolls for auction, and many other handmade items.  She also made ornaments for the Angel Tree, and blankets for preemie babies at the hospital.  The lesson of giving back to the community was exemplified every day.

Thank you, Mom, for instilling a fierce sense of independence and creativity in each of us.  We learned that we can and should perfect our craft, whatever it is, and share it with the ones that we love.  We will feel your warm hug each time we curl up under one your beautiful Afghans, and we will make certain your great-grandchildren enjoy deviled eggs according to your special recipe.  We know how proud you were of each of us.  God granted us the special gift of having you as our mother and guide.  Your spirit will remain in our hearts and will continue to be an inspiration for all that we do.  We Love You.

David Arthur "Dave" Logan

December 27, 1933 – January 31, 2018

U.S. Veteran – USMC

Dave was the fourth of five children born to Ruth and Virgil Logan in Dallas City, Illinois, on December 27, 1933.  He passed away at home on the evening of January 31, 2018 surrounded by his family.  He married his high school sweetheart Norma Carol Harris on April 20, 1952.  After Serving in the US Marines, he and Norma moved around the country following the dream to own his own business.  Those journeys started humbly with him pumping gas at the local station while studying at Western Illinois University and her working at the Sheaffer pen and pencil plant.  After many years of work and sacrifice, he earned his way to executive positions at Fruehauf Trailers, Dyna-Truck Division, and Dorsey Trailers.  They finally settled in Minden in the early 1980s, where he eventually owned and operated Dunham Manufacturing/Log Hog Manufacturing.

Dave was also proud to have built over 140 piece of furniture, made from scraps and salvaged pieces of wood off the plant floor.  Each piece was designed and crafted, then given to family and friends across the country.  A few of these handcrafted works of art were donated to the St Jude's Minden Charity Auction, including the first playhouse.  Many friends and family members turned to him for help with remodeling and construction projects.  He was a thinker, a tinkerer, and the ultimate problem solver.  He was always willing to swap "scar stories", those that are the usually the result from occasional mishaps of craftsmanship and invention.  The smell of wood and varnish will forever comfort and remind us of the importance of his craft and loving generosity.

His family, by far, was his proudest accomplishment.  He was always willing to brag to everyone about all of our accomplishments and latest adventures.  These stories included a few embarrassing "dad stories" that made us all chuckle or cringe.

Thank you, Dad, for teaching us the importance of sharing the art within each of us-that which we create, the craft we do with our hands, our hearts and our imagination.  We truly know how proud you were of each of us.  God granted us the special gift of having you as our father, mentor and friend.  Your loving encouragement will remain in our hearts and will continue to be an inspiration for all that we do.  We Love You.

They are preceded in death by the following:

David's parents, Ruth Elma Nicol Logan Clark and Virgil Lloyd Logan; his siblings, Virginia Logan Kukuk, Constance Logan Ferrell, Gerald Lloyd Logan, and Robert Eagle Logan.

Norma's parents, Minnie Marie Dulaney Harris and Robert Leland Harris; an infant sister, Betty Ellen Harris; grandsons, William Troy "T-Roy" Waters and Seth Harris Collier.

Their favorite canine pal, Casey.

They are survived by the following:

Children - son, David Michael Logan and his wife, Leslie; daughter, Nancy Logan Waters and her husband, Bill; daughter, Lori Logan Collier and her husband, Clive; son, Curtis Marc Logan and his wife, Paula; and daughter, Robin Elaine Logan.

Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren -  David Barton Waters, his wife, Carlie, and their son David Stafford "Ford"; Holly Waters Mehrer, her husband, Joe, and their sons, William Henry and Samuel Robert; Schuyler Logan Collier, his wife, Courtney, and their children, Reid Harris and Meredith Lynn; Caroline Collier Roy, her husband, Justin, and their children, George Shepherd and Mary Collier; Elise Logan Archie, her husband, Will, their daughters, Mackenzie Logan and Hayden Carolina; Paul Lucas Logan and Christopher Ryan Logan.

Norma's one surviving brother - Donald Harris.

Friends and family, we ask that you remember Dave and Norma with smiles, laughter and time with family.  When you create something beautiful, share it with ones you love and think of them fondly.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a memorial donation to St Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis on their behalf.  They would be appreciative and proud.
