Devin Murfin, 55, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017.

He grew up in Macomb, IL and Madison, WI. In 1989 he married his wife, Nancy Markoff, in Fort Madison, IA. Devin studied mortuary sciences in St. Louis, but went on to open a successful tattoo studio, Tattoo Blue, in Macomb. He and his family eventually settled in a beautiful river cabin in Pontoosuc, IL.

Devins time in the army took him to Germany, but he was happiest when on the river. He lovedfishing, hunting, cooking for his boys, sharpening his knives, cleaning his guns and buffing hisboots. An artist and author, he was meticulous in everything he did and will be remembered forhis determination, warrior spirit, love for his boys, and love of the river. He had a realisticcompassion for animals and nature. He was an avid collector of hot sauces and French ForeignLegion memorabilia.

Survivors include his wife, two sons Kane Catfish Murfin and Blaze Coyote Murfin, his motherDorothy Payne of Macomb, three sisters Mary Christine Moore and Melinda Johnson of SanFrancisco, Kylah Green of St. Louis. He is preceded in death by his father, Gary L. Murfin ofMacomb, his paternal grandparents Laverne and Eldora Murfin of Colchester, IL, his maternalgrandparents Virgil and Mary Payne of Macomb.
