Mildred D. "Topsy" Sutton
Mrs. Mildred D. Topsy Sutton, 92, of Lomax, Illinois passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
Topsy was born on September 7, 1921 in Decorah, Illinois the daughter of George and Catherine Ank Kemp. On November 5, 1938 she married Gail Sutton in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2007.
Mrs. Sutton was a member of the First Christian Church in Lomax. She also belonged to the Lomax-Carman Senior Citizens. Topsy loved quilting, and canning. She enjoyed cooking and serving meals to her family. Mrs. Sutton was very fond of her grandchildren and cherished her time with them.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra (Gene) Schertz of Lomax, one son, Terry (Judy) Sutton of Hamilton, Illinois, one daughter-in-law, Sandi Sutton of Dallas City, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Topsy was preceded in death by her husband, Gail, one son, James Sutton, two brothers, Bill and Bob Kemp, three sisters, Dorothy Hovell, Lucille McIntyre, and Helen Gillis.
Services will be held at 2:00p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Peggy Stott officiating. Burial will be in the Carman Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the First Christian Church in Lomax and the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.
