Obituary

Michael Lynn Duffie, 72, of Blandinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 8th at Springfield Memorial Hospital, with his daughters by his side. Born on November 24, 1953, to Loren and Leona Allison Duffie, Mike grew up in the Disco/LaHarpe area with his five siblings. He graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1971 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1974.

In 1979, Mike married Brenda Guzman, and together they welcomed her son, Earnie Timmerman, into their family. They soon added Matthew in 1979 and Teri in 1981. Although Mike and Brenda later divorced, he remained a devoted father. In 1998, he married Bonnie Baker, sharing 27 joyful years with her until her passing in November 2025.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved son Matthew and wife Bonnie, brother Doug, sister-in-law Kate, parents Leona and Loren, and aunt/second mother Mary. He is survived by his children Teri (Kate) Duffie Fitzgerald, Noel (Brian) Duncan, and Steve (Marla) Caywood; siblings Carron (Ken) Foster, Cathie (Ray) Bunch, Lenus (Barb) Duffie, and John (Cathy) Duffie; grandchildren Ashley (Jim) Beck, Zachary Caywood, Brittany (Aaron) Mowen, Dallas Cramer and Taylor (Nick) Phelps; great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Hadlee, Waylen, Oaklynn and Crew; god grandson Chase Heath; numerous cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

An avid sports fan, Mike loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He shared his passion for baseball by teaching his siblings and coaching his children, instilling a love for the game in many family members. Known for his expertise on the pool table, he also helped his children, grandchildren and recently great-grandchildren develop this skill.

A history enthusiast, Mike had a particular interest in the Civil and World Wars, as well as local history and family genealogy. His curious nature led him to learn all he could about topics of interest, and he was an excellent storyteller and source of information. He enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and was known for his wit and humor.

According to Mike, life was “wonderful”, a sentiment he held to the end. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
