Michael Warren “Spud” Boyd, 78, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away at 5:13 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026 at his home.

Mike was born August 11, 1947 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Glen Warren and Esther I. (Miller) Boyd. On February 19, 1974, he married Janet Gillett at the LaHarpe Union Church. She survives.

Mike was a 1965 graduate of LaHarpe High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his Honorable Discharge, he attended Southern Illinois University majoring in Aircraft Mechanics. He spent all of his life farming and raising livestock in the Lacrosse, Illinois, area, as well as being employed by West Central FS, Inc., at their LaHarpe facility.

He was a member of the Carthage VFW, The Eagles Club in Carthage and the LaHarpe American Legion. He enjoyed riding horses and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons: Mike (Maureen) Boyd of Manteno, Illinois and Jeff (Jamie) Boyd of Hancock, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Michael (Sara) Boyd, Maddie Boyd, Milana Boyd, Mitchell Boyd, Sam Boyd, Josey Boyd, Calvin Boyd and Tommy Boyd; two great-grandchildren: Rosie and Ryder and two sisters: Lana Boyd of LaHarpe and Jan (Max) Burg of LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
