Marjorie L. McDowell

Mrs. Marjorie L. McDowell, 93, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 3:45 PM Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.

She was born November 16, 1921 in Elvaston, IL, the daughter of Revy and Ethel Hankins Martin. On October 17, 1942 she married Charles William McDowell in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1990.

She attended grade school in Augusta, IL before moving to Quincy, IL her 8th grade year. She graduated from Quincy High School and Gem City Business College.

She was a farm wife, living in Clayton, IL until moving to a farm east of Disco, Il in 1958. In 1980 she moved to LaHarpe.

Later in life, Marjorie worked for Gillett Shelter care, Crabill Shelter Care and the LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the D.E. Club and the LaHarpe Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her family and was always happy to have them visit. She also enjoyed playing cards, taking bus trips with friends and especially spending time with her son, Jerry, in Missouri.

She is survived by by one son, Charles Duane (Pat) McDowell of rural LaHarpe, one daughter, Carolyn (Roger) Trout of Disco, IL, 10 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren 29 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 23 step-great-great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sons, Ronald, Jerry and Greg, 1 daughter-in-law, Ruby McDowell and 1 brother, Robert Martin.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 AM Wednesday until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Senior Citizens and the Terre Haute United Methodist Church.
