Maurice Clayton Stambaugh, 85, of rural Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois.

Maurice was born April 4, 1939 in Canton, Illinois, the son of Earl C. and Amelia (Werner) Stambaugh. In 1962 he married Joyce Atkins. They later divorced. He would later spend over 40 years with his longtime companion, Sharon Luetger. She preceded him in death April 19, 2024.

Mr. Stambaugh was raised in the Elmwood, Illinois, area and graduated from Elmwood High School. He served in the Illinois National Guard for four years. He began farming at a young age with his family. He moved to Lomax and began his own farming operation in the early 1960s. He raised cattle and hogs, as well as corn and soybeans. He took pride in implementing conservation practices on his farm and caring for his land. He was a member of the Lions Club.

Survivors include two sons: Clayton (Lynita) Stambaugh of Lomax and Clinton (Ange) Stambaugh of Lomax; one daughter: Angela Stambaugh of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren: Julie, Brandon, Matt and Jill Stambaugh; one step-grandson: Jake Huebner and one sister: Mary (Dick) Crenshaw of Yates City, Illinois.

Besides his longtime companion, Sharon, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Carroll and Elmer Stambaugh and one sister: Sue Stanfel.

A graveside service for Maurice will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Crane Cemetery, near Lomax, Illinois with Clarence Waldinger officiating.
