Mark James Hungerford
Mark James Hungerford, age 59 of rural Gladstone, Illinois passed away Tuesday October 18, 2016, following a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He was born January 17, 1957 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Charles and Neva Fuhrman Hungerford. In 1977, he married Lori Gingrich. They later divorced. On October 5, 2002, he married Cyndi Dodd in Clear Lake, Iowa.
Mr. Hungerford was the owner/operator of Hungerford Trucking Company for 28 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1975 until 1979, serving in Germany, Alaska and Nebraska. He then farmed near Blue Hill, Nebraska for a few years and entered the trucking business in 1985. He served a second tour in the Air National Guard from 1990 until 1993, and then resumed his trucking business. In 1994, he moved to West Burlington, Iowa and transported groceries for Aldi Food, until his failing health forced his early retirement. He met his wife, Cyndi, in Mason City, Iowa, where she was managing the Aldi store there. In August of 2003, he and Cyndi moved to their present home and acreage near Gladstone.
Mark enjoyed woodworking, and doing any project outdoors. He loved his family, his faithful dog Harley, and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 of Lincoln, Nebraska and the Antique Motorycle Club of America.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cyndi, one daughter- Nikki Schulte of Hastings, NE, one step son, Travis (Tami) Dodd of Mason City, IA, one step daughter, Mandy (Ron) Wise, also of Mason City, six grandchildren, Rylee Schulte, Mia Dodd, Trey, Trent, Lily and Dominic Wise, two brothers, Tim Hungerford of Danville, IA, Todd (Tina) Hungerford of Sierra Vista, AZ, and one sister, Ann Kienzle of Riceville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Mackelprang.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday October 22, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, Illinois. A second visitation will be held Monday October 24, 2016 from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa, followed by graveside services, with military rites in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. A memorial fund has been established for the family.
