Marion E. "Eddie" Bruce

Marion Edward Eddie Bruce, age 80 of Stronghurst, IL, died at 10:50 P.M. Monday May 23, 2011 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born December 14, 1930 in Norris City, Illinois, the son of Thomas Clyde and Nancy Vickers Bruce. On October 1, 1955, he married Delores Detrick in Macomb, Illinois.

Mr. Bruce was a technician for General Telephone Company for 43 years, retiring in 1992. He was an Army veteran of Korean War and was a member of the Stronghurst American Legion. He was a partner in BGs Buy N Bye convenience stores in Burlington for many years. He was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter - LoReah (Steven) Gerdes of Burlington, IA., two sons- Randall Edward (Deanna) Bruce of Carman, IL., V. Evan (Jodie) Bruce of Cedar Rapids, IA., six grandchildren, and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and two half sisters.

Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Bruce will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Maurice Stribling officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center and the Humane Society.
