Marilyn Jean White, 86, of LaHarpe, IL passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 12:43 AM at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
She was born March 5, 1927 in LaHarpe, the daughter of Bryan and Garnett Bainter Johnson. On January 26, 1973 she married James J. White of LaHarpe. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2000.
Marilyn graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1945. She spent the majority of her career working at Advance Ross in Burlington, IA and Alexander Lumber Co. in Stronghurst, IL. Marilyn was a member of the Old Bedford Church in rural Blandinsville, IL for many years. After moving to LaHarpe, she and her husband attended the LaHarpe United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Marilyn and Jim loved to travel and spent many winters in Mission, TX, after their retirement. They also were able to enjoy trips with friends and family exploring many points of of interest in several states around America.
Survivors include one son, Donald (Hope) Wilcox of Richland, MO , two step-daughters, Kathy Stevens (Tres Lennep) of Ocean Springs, MS and Tammy Rupp (John) of Quincy, IL, 5 grandchildren, Rosanna Wilcox, Susanna Johnson, Donald Vincent Wilcox, Gong Ju Wilcox and Marilyn Marie Wilcox, 6 step-grandchildren, James Stevens, Josh Stevens, Blake Rupp, Bryce Rupp, Justin Rupp and Malinda St. John, 2 foster-grandchildren, Tom Howard and Cindy Rossiter and 1 sister, Bonnie Chapin of LaHarpe along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 3, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. There will be no formal visitation, but family and friends are welcome to stop at the funeral home anytime between 3:00 and 8:00 PM Thursday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe United Methodist Church.
