Margie C. Spangler, 89, of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Fountain Green, Illinois, passed away at 7:47 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb.

Margie was born in Avon, Illinois, April 28, 1937 the daughter of Raymond “Sam” and Velma (Kitch) Porter. She married Arthur Cameron “Turk” Spangler on February 11, 1955 in Macomb. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1998.

She was a farmer’s wife and lived the busy life of one, moving with her husband to Blandinsville early on, then Biggsville, before winding up building their lives in the Fountain Green Community for over 60 years.

Margie was employed by Methode Electronics in Carthage for 24 years, retiring in 2008. Later in life, she enjoyed taking in many St. Louis Cardinal games with her daughter, family friend Georgette and her grandkids.

After her mother’s death in 1989, she carried on the family tradition of having a nice Sunday dinner for the family each week, preparing one for nearly the next three decades. In her 89 years, she picked many bushel of morel mushrooms, by far her favorite past time! Her family was important to her, and she was always glad to have the kids/grandkids around.

She moved to Wesley Village Apartments in 2024, where she rekindled relationships with old friends and made many new friends, which she cherished.

Survivors include four children: Dean (Sharon) Spangler of LaHarpe, Dan (Karen) Spangler of LaHarpe, Dorinda Spangler of rural Ftn Green and Darren (Shelly) Spangler of rural Ftn Green; six grandchildren: Jake (Rissa) Spangler of Rockford, Sarah Karnes of Phoenix, Kerry Spangler of Ft. Madison, Nikki Spangler of Macomb, Amanda Spangler of Carthage and Avery (Janie) Spangler of rural Ftn Green; five step-grandchildren: Tammy Plutz, Wesley Wayland, Carrie Burnham, Cassandra Busby and Christopher Rogers and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Airman 1st Class Joseph Kent Spangler, Elaina Spangler and Skylar Spangler.

The services for Margie will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Banks & Beals Funeral in LaHarpe, with Rev. A. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in Spangler Cemetery, near Fountain Green.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
