Margaret M. Briscoe, age 87 of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 4:03 a.m. Thursday August 24, 2017 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born January 24, 1930 in Monticello, Missouri, the daughter of Jennings and Freda Speer Bevans. On June 11, 1948, she married Robert S. Briscoe in Williamstown, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1984.
At an early age, Margaret moved from Monticello to Williamstown, MO, where she attended a one room country school, and later graduated from Williamstown High School. After her marriage, she lived most of her adult life near Gladstone. She worked in the banquet rooms of Holiday Inn of Burlington and the Burlington Golf Club. She also assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and working in her yard. She was a member of the Gladstone United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda (Dennis) Hunter, of Biggsville, IL, four grandchildren, Brad, Brian, Ben and Brooke Hunter, 3 great grandchildren, Cody, Jacob, and Charles Hunter, and two sisters, Virginia St.Clair and Betty Sawyer, both of Kahoka, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Stanley Briscoe, two sisters, Mary Ellen and Lola Mae, and two brothers, J.B. and Tommy Bevans.
The funeral for Mrs. Briscoe will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday August 28, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Pastors Howard Ross and Basil Bevans officiating. Burial will be in the Carman Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Gladstone United Methodist Church.
