Obituary

Margaret "Maggie" Ann Jones, 81, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Maggie was born on February 19, 1939 in LaHarpe the daughter of Clarence Arthur and Marybelle (Glisan) Rathbun Jr. Maggie's father died when she was only three years old. Following her father's death, she was raised by her grandparents, Arthur and Myrtle Rathbun on their farm. Maggie married Richard Jones. They later divorced.

Maggie attended grade school at Independence Country School, near LaHarpe and graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1957. Earlier in life she worked various waitress jobs all over the United States. In 1984 she graduated from the University of Utah with her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Criminology. She later received her Master's Degree from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.

Maggie worked for 35 years for the U.S. Government. She began her career working in secretarial positions in 1970. Her job took her all over the world. She moved a total of 23 times throughout her career. She retired from the DEA as an Intelligence Analyst in 2005. She was a member of the LaHarpe Union Church, LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary and the LaHarpe Senior Citizens.

Survivors include one son, Dennis (Collette) Jones of Kalispell, Montana; two grandchildren, Kyle (Christy) Jones and Amy (James) Broyce; great-grandchildren, Taelor Boyce, Vincent Jones and Thomas Boyce; one brother, Marvin (Gayla) Rathbun and former husband Richard Jones.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents and her father and mother-in-law, Virgil and Bertha Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services, Saturday, at Banks & Beals.

A memorial fund has been established for the PAW Animal Shelter in Ft. Madison or the LaHarpe Union Church.
