Louise Pogue
was born in Monmouth, IL on December 29, 1923. She was the only child of Thomas and Grace Cobb Shimmin.
She received her education at Fairview Center Grade School, Monmouth High School (class of 1941), Monmouth College (class of 1944) and did graduate studies at Northern Illinois University. While at Monmouth she was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Delta sorority.
She married Max Rankin Pogue on December 23, 1945, in Roseville. She had three sons Philip Max (Carol) of Aurora, Thomas Earl of Macomb, and Garrett Dirk (Vicky) of Mundelein. One of her greatest regrets was having no daughters.
However she did have four granddaughters: Gina Reeder (David) of Naperville, Kari Walker (Andrew) of Naperville, Erin Lodes (Mike) of Champaign, and Cassidy Pogue of Mundelein. In addition she had one grandson, Devin Pogue (Sara) of Highwood.
Great Grandchildren include: Peyton Reeder, Chase Reeder, Cole Walker, Katherine Walker, Jackson Walker and Grace Lodes.
Louise was a secondary school teacher throughout her life, teaching in such schools as: Media High, Colchester High, Abingdon High, Gladstone-Oquawka High, Biggsville High, and culminating her career as an English teacher for twenty-two years at Dixon High School, in Dixon, IL. Early on in her career, in addition to teaching English, she also taught Physical Education and Spanish.
In retirement, she and her husband, Max, moved to Oquawka in 1982 and then on to Macomb in 1993. For the last five years, she has been a resident at Alden of Waterford, in Aurora.
She passed from this life to the next on April 24, having lived 90 years, three months, and 26 days. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
The visitation takes place at the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, IL, on Monday, April 28 at 10:00AM. The funeral will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00, with the committal immediately following at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Media, Illinois.
