Lorraine Johnson, age 89, of Raritan, Illinois, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born April 18, 1937 in Raritan, the daughter of Vincent and Joyce Duncan Arnold. On November 20, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Carlyle Johnson at the Raritan Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2004.
Lorraine grew up in Raritan, and graduated from Media-Wever High School in 1955. She was employed by the Winegard Company in Burlington for over 30 years. She was a faithful member of the Raritan Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and served on various church boards. She was also a member of the Raritan Fireman’s Auxiliary. She devoted her life to helping others and serving her community.
Survivors include two daughters, Carla Magee of Raritan, and Darla (Greg) Hoffeditz of Belleville, IL, five grandchildren, April Magee, Aaron (Samantha) Magee, Heather Hoffeditz, Trenton ( Hannah) Hoffeditz, and Travis Hoffeditz, four great granddaughters, two sisters, Roberta Hanger of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Loma (Bill) Schafer of Lebanon, IN, one brother-in-law, Lamar (Ann) Johnson of Waunakee, WI, and many nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Danny (in infancy), Lewis and Dennis, one sister, Jeanette Boyd, and one son-in-law, Dwayne “Fibber” Magee.
The funeral service for Lorraine will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2026 in the Raritan Baptist Church, with Pastor Dan Siems officiating. The family will receive friends form 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Raritan Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Raritan Baptist Church.
