Mr. Loren Gene Stephenson, 49, of Pontoosuc, Illinois passed away at 8:45 AM Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at his home.

He was born October 5, 1958 in Colorado Springs, CO, the son of Virgil W. and Lovie B. Sanders Stephenson. On November 29, 1986 he married Dawn Fiday in Colorado Springs.
Gene was raised in Colorado Springs where he graduated from Doherty High School in 1976.

He moved to Pontoosuc 16 years ago. He worked as a Rural Letter Carrier from 1985 to the present, first in Colorado and then in West Point, Iowa. He served as an elder at the First Christian Church in Dallas City and currently at the River of Life Church, Dallas City. He enjoyed playing guitar, riding his motorcycle and studying about the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Valerie and Audra Stephenson, both at home, his father and step-mother, Virgil and Joan Stephenson of Little Rock, AR, his mother, Lovie Lewis of Colorado Springs, two brothers, Vann (Patty) Sanders of Castle Rock, Washington and Bruce (Susan) Stephenson of Divide, Colorado and his mother-in-law, Marilyn Fiday of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lauren Stephenson and his grandparents.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. The family will meet with friends Saturday, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
