LESTER V. MARKEY

Mr. Lester V. Markey, 93, of Dallas City, IL passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Hickory Grove Assisted Living in Carthage, IL.

He was born May 15, 1924 near Dallas City, the son of Paul Noland and Grace Loretta Byers Markey. On June 11, 1946 he married Frances I. Nixon in Carthage, IL.

Mr. Markey farmed, and made his home on the land that has been in his family for 150 years. He also worked at Moulder's Friend in Dallas City and the IAAP in Middletown, IA. He served on the Dallas City Township Board and the Dallas City Unit 336 School Board for 13 years. He was a member of the Dallas City Lions Club. He was also a member and Trustee of the Dallas City Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Third Degree of Nauvoo, IL and the Fourth Degree of Fort Madison, IA.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Gail Pat (Judy) Markey of Dallas City and Anthony "Tony" Markey of Dallas City, three daughters, Barbara (Gary) Mika of Walford, IA, Rebecca (Randy) Gibb of Lomax, IL and Beth (Dave) Greenig of Dallas City and daughter-in-law Sherry Markey Milks of Fairfax, IA, fifteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and three great-great-grand-children, one brother, Leon (Charlotte) Markey of Belleview, FL and three sisters, Katherine (Ed) Symmonds of Dallas City, Dorothy Johnson of Dallas City and Mary (Jim) Rees of Ferris, IL.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Markey, two grandchildren in infancy, four brothers and his parents.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 followed by visitation with the family until 8:00PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 21st at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will follow in the Gittings Mound Cemetery, rural Dallas City. A memorial fund has been established for the Gittings Mound Cemetery and Unity Point Hospice.
