Obituary

Larry Dean Russell, 61, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in Dallas City.

Larry was born December 29, 1960 in Bloomfield, Iowa, the son of William and Betty (Baxter) Russell. On August 3, 1978 he married Barbara Johnson in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. They later divorced.

Larry was a graduate of WACO Community High School in Wayland, Iowa, where he excelled in baseball and wrestling. Following high school he received his Associates Degree from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington. Larry was a man of many talents and used his talents to work as a gun smith, master welder, carpenter, and building fence with Trout Fencing, near Dallas City. He also worked as a Prison Guard at the Iowa State Penitentiary. Larry was a Veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking and riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Survivors include his mother: Betty Wheaton of Dallas City; three daughters: Brandy (Sterling) Atterberg of Happy Hollow, Illinois, Maggie (Michael) Armstrong of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Jackie (Brett) Kelley of LaHarpe, Illinois; he was a Papa to ten grandchildren: Benjamin, Logan, Weston, Jack, Paige, Aunastasiea, Michael, Bryce, Nora and Henry and one great-grandson: Tobias. Also surviving are four sisters: Rose (Stanley) Pepple, Joani (Bob) Dowell, Peggy (Craig) Grothe and Michelle Russell and two brothers: Danny (Karen) Russell and Thomas Russell.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, one brother: Billy James "Jimmy" Russell and his step-mother: Linda Russell.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.

A visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. No services are planned following the visitation.

A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City American Legion.
