Larry Wayne Morris, age 76 of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday January 23, 2018.
He was born May 31, 1941 in Stronghurst, Illinois, the son of Frank and Susie Jane Magee Morris. On July 9, 1961, he married Ruth Cook at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Burlington.
Larry was a 1960 graduate of Stronghurst High School. He worked at IAAP as a safety inspector, the Trane Company, and was a welder for J.I. Case Company. In 2001, he retired as Sergeant of the Guards at the Iowa State Penitentiary, where he served for 21 years.
He loved doing construction work, especially roofing and making things out of wood. After his retirement, he enjoyed taking care of the yard work, and working in the flower beds. He enjoyed camping, especially when his grandkids came along, and loved playing cards with them. His family and friends were the joy of his life. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, James Morris and Anthony (Becky) Morris, both of Burlington, three grandchildren, Matthew, Branden, and Alisha Morris, four step grandchildren, Krystal, James, Jamie and Cody, three step great grandchildren, and one sister, Helen Penrod of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter in law, Rhonda Morris, one sister, three brothers, and one step great granddaughter.
Visitation will be from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 27, 2018 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, followed by graveside services in the Stronghurst Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the family.
