Mr. Larry J. Smith, 70, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 5:50 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at his home.

Larry was born on January 1, 1946 in LaHarpe, IL, the son of Darrell and Lorraine Fish Smith. On September 5, 1981 Larry married the love of his life, LaVeta K. Clark.

Mr. Smith grew up on a farm in Durham, IL where he helped his father with crops and livestock. Throughout school Larry played the accordion and vibra-harp and once appeared on stage with Minnie Pearl. He was a 1963 graduate of the former Dallas City, IL. Larry served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1970. Along with Farming, he worked many different occupations throughout his life.

Larry is survived by his wife: LaVeta Smith; two children: Bill Smith of Dallas City, and Dalene (Alan) Mowen of Dallas City; two step-children: John (Sonya) Newman of Warsaw, IL and Angela (Matthew) Moore of West Burlington, IA; one sister: Sheila (Dan) Smith of Keokuk, IA; nine grandchildren he adored: Darien Green, Bruce and Shelby Newman, Alexis and Cara Hawley, Jesse, Drake and Haley Mowen and Mikyla Ransford; one great-granddaughter Lynleigh Hawley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter: Mary Beth Smith.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Homes in Dallas City. A memorial service with a flag presentation will be held following the visitation at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
