Obituary

Kevin L. Brewer, 62, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 9:54 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at OSF St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.

Kevin was born August 10, 1961 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Kenneth A. and Betty (Howe) Brewer. On February 27, 1982 he married Maureen Markey in Carthage, Illinois. They later divorced.

Kevin was a 1979 graduate of Dallas City High School. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served on the USS O'Callahan. Following his military service he worked for Waukegan Tire, Waukegan, Illinois and Western Auto, Burlington, Iowa, before a 25 year career with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.

Kevin loved the Dallas City community and took an active role volunteering. He was a past Chief of the Dallas City Fire Department, as well as a volunteer with the Lomax Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Carthage VFW Post #5117 and the Dallas City American Legion Post #297, where he was currently serving as Commander.

Survivors include three sons: Glenn (Melisa) Brewer of Wellington, Illinois, Kevin (Alanda) Brewer of Bristow, Virginia and John (Shawna) Brewer of Wauconda, Illinois, six grandchildren: Madison, Bryson, Kaiden, Khloe, Ellie and Coen; four siblings: Sarah (Ken) Foxall of Macomb, Illinois, Ron Brewer of LaHarpe, Donna Brewer of Dallas City and Terry Brewer of Dallas City; one brother-in-law: Tom Maynard of Pontoosuc, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Melody Maynard; grandparents: Fred and Dorothy Howe and Charles and Sarah Brewer and one sister-in-law: Penny Brewer.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Honors will be conducted by the Southeast Iowa Regional Fire Honor Guard during visitation.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Larry Menschel and Fr. Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will follow in Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. Military Honors will be conducted by the Dallas City American Legion and Hancock County Honor Guard.
